Google Assistant New features

During event in San Francisco Google announced many new features for Google Assistant such as the ability to control over a thousand smart home products including Nest and Logitech Harmony. Now, the AI powered Assistant has appeared as an application on the Google Play Store.
Now many of you might be thinking that the Assistant on the Play Store surely means it will now work on devices that do not support it as of now. Sadly, that is not the case. The Google Assistant App just provides another way to launch the Assistant. It is just a shortcut of sorts basically. Instead of having to long press the home button on your phone, you can now just tap the app icon once to invoke Assistant.

The listing on the Google Play Store reads - "The Google Assistant app provides another way to launch the Assistant that's already available on your phone. It allows you to quickly access your Google Assistant with one tap. You can still access your Assistant by pressing and holding down your home button or by simply saying, "Ok Google". All in all, not very useful really.
