Passenger Trains Impact on Corona Virus
Resuming railway services from this past Monday can put our lives into more jeopardy. The
announcement made by govt that trains are into action from NewDelhi to various parts of our
country can end up in a huge spike in corona numbers. The effort made by every Indian and govt will go in vain in the third phase of lockdown. We end up in a situation which is beyond our imagination.
As per the statistics by worldometer, we have already seen how rapid the spike is going up from the third phase of lockdown which began on 3 May 2020 because of relaxations in some
zones. Already with the stranded Indians movement by trains had affected the numbers but this
movement is important as they want to return home safely. As there are many Indians who are
already in quarantine and a lot of effort by our frontline workers and govt officials for a safe and
smooth move back home.
As we are fighting against this pandemic from long time we had spent a lot of resources like labour, medical equipment, capital etc to set up quarantine centre's, sanitization at various places etc to have control over this situation.
At this time restarting of train services involve activities like sanitization of trains, screening of
passengers and ensuring that there is social distancing in the train which requires a lot of effort and
time.
Some flaws regarding this move at the time of pandemic are as follows:
! Some states are opposing this move as it will affect the public of their states.
! Numbers might increase as there are possibilities of huge public gatherings.
! Destination stops are only at famous and big cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai,
Ahmedabad etc.
! A passenger who wants to get down in the middle of their journey is not possible, and
cannot reach their destination even from the above-mentioned places.
! This move is not successful for passengers who want to go to red zones of the specific place.
!Instead of testing passengers, it is far better to test more people for a better result which will save
time, effort, and capital which is very limited and required at this point in time.
Yes, there are some certain situations where this move is important. But this applies to a max of 25% of the Indian population. Remaining 75% doesn't need this facility. Central govt has announced that trains will resume from June 30 2020. They once again proved that health is important than anything at the time of the pandemic.
